DAY 1 in London

For your first day in London, enjoy sitting on top of a double-decker bus, while listening to the live guide or audio tour. London is a big city and the sites are spread out, so it’s nice to get an overview while relaxing, hearing some of the history, and taking in the nice view.

Big Bus Tour Map London

London Travel Tip

Purchase Big Bus London online, before leaving home and print out your tickets. You will save money this way, and be ready to “hop on” a bus when you are ready! If you are traveling with kids, the family pass is a great deal.

See the best Landmarks in London and London sightseeing with a live tour guide on the Red Tour. For the best views, grab a seat up top in the front.

You will want to hop off the bus to see the inside of some of the top sites in London- The Tower of London, St. Pauls Cathedral (which is right next to the amazing Big Ben).

Just hop off the bus, and then hop back on when you are done (in the same place that you hopped off!)

When you are finished with the Red Line, hop on the Orange Line or the Blue Line to finish out your day. You may want to end with the line that will go near your accommodations. Or, just find the nearest Underground station to get back.

DAY 2 in London

Check for the same-day discount theater tickets at TKTS, on the south side of Leicester Square (Monday-Saturday at 10:00 am, Sunday at 11:00 am)

Got to the royal Buckingham Palace to see the Changing of the Guards

This takes place at 10:45 daily (get there early during the busy summer months), April through July, and every other day in the other months.

Walk to “Hyde Park Corner,” then into beautiful Hyde Park.

Stroll around the park and end at Kensington Palace. If you are traveling with young children, you may want to check out the Princess Diana Playground (our kids loved it when they were 4, 6, and 8!)

After looking at the famous Kensington Palace, walk down to get some lunch at Whole Foods in Kensington (one of our favorite places to eat in London!) It is three stories with a gourmet food court at the top.

Walk through South Kensington and spend the rest of the afternoon at one of the fantastic FREE museums: Natural History Museum or Victoria and Albert Museum.

Would you rather shop than go to a world-class museum? Head down the street for the most famous department store in London, Harrods.

In the evening, try some high-rated typical British food for dinner.

DAY 3 in London

Start this day with my favorite museum in the world, the British Museum. It opens at 10:00 am daily.

Travel Tip: After you purchase your tickets and receive a museum map, plan out your time by seeing what you are most interested in first. If you are able to print a map from the website and plan in advance, even better. Just make sure that the first thing you do is head for the incredible Rosetta Stone near the entrance.

Walk through the Fitzrovia neighborhood to High Street in Marlybone, a chic residential village with shops, cafes, and restaurants. Have lunch then walk down to Oxford Street towards Hyde Park. For restaurant and shop information on this area, click here.

Head to the nearest underground station or walk across Hyde Park to visit the museum that you missed yesterday, Natural History Museum or Victoria and Albert Museum.
